Cynthia started her long running career in the business moving into New York to pursue a modeling career. Her first modeling contract was for five years working with Wihelmina Models. This led to her appearing on the cover of Essence Magazine. Cynthia's Essence cover, which was one of the best-selling in magazine history, was also Susan Taylor's favorite. Cynthia would soon book her second cover, which set her career in motion. Next stop was Paris in addition to Milan. In Milan, she was seen on the catwalks during Paris Fashion Week. Cynthia, who had lived overseas for nearly one year, came back to New York City where she was extremely sought after. The campaigns for Maybelline Oil of Olay Macy's as well as Macy's was among her first assignments. Editorials in magazines were written for Vogue, Glamour, Elle, Essence and Vanity Fair were soon to follow. Cynthia was picked to be chosen by Naomi Campbell over Naomi Campbell as co-star with Sandra Bernhadt for the film, "Without You, I'm nothing."
